Aluminium venetian blinds, made to your windows
Powder-coated 25mm aluminium slats tilt to any angle and hold it, in the kitchens, bathrooms and offices where fabric blinds struggle. A 50mm Styrowood wide-slat option gives larger windows a bolder, softer look. Measured and fitted by our own Cape Town team.
25mm or 50mm
Both are made to measure and both handle moisture. The choice comes down to the look you want and the size of the window.
25mm aluminium slats
The classic slim venetian. Powder-coated aluminium slats tilt precisely, hold their angle and take no notice of steam or splashes, which is why they end up in kitchens, bathrooms and offices all over Cape Town.
50mm Styrowood wide slat
A wider blade in Styrowood, a moisture-resistant faux-wood polystyrene. It reads like a timber venetian but won't warp over a bath or basin, and the bolder line sits in better proportion on larger windows.
The blind for hard-working rooms
Urbanshades fits venetian blinds across Cape Town because they give you something a roller can't: separate control of light and privacy. Tilt the slats up and daylight bounces off the ceiling while the street sees nothing. Tilt them down to cut glare off a screen, or raise the whole blind and the window is clear. Because the slats are powder-coated aluminium, a steamy bathroom or a busy kitchen does them no harm at all.
Every blind is made to measure. We measure your windows ourselves on a free site visit, send a fixed written quote within 48 hours, and our own crew fits the blinds inside the reveal or on the face, whichever suits the window. The work is covered by a written guarantee registered to your address.
Three reasons they last
Metal and Styrowood do things fabric can't, and keep doing them for years.
Aluminium and Styrowood absorb nothing, so steam, condensation and cooking splatter wipe straight off. No warping, no water stains, no mould above the bath.
Steam-proof
The slats hold any angle you set, from fully open to fully closed. Bounce light off the ceiling, block the afternoon glare, or keep the view and lose the neighbours.
Precise tilt
Powder-coated slats keep their colour through years of direct sun. There is no fabric to fade or fray; a wipe with a damp cloth brings them back to new.

Venetian blind questions
Straight answers before you book a measure.
Are aluminium venetian blinds good for bathrooms and kitchens?
Yes, they are the first blind we recommend for wet rooms. Powder-coated aluminium absorbs nothing, so shower steam and cooking splatter sit on the surface until you wipe them off. There is no fabric to stain or grow mould. If you want a warmer, timber-style look over a bath, the 50mm Styrowood slats handle the same conditions.
Should I choose 25mm or 50mm slats?
Pick 25mm for most windows and 50mm where you want a bolder look. The slim aluminium slat suits standard windows, bathrooms and offices, and stacks tighter when raised. The 50mm Styrowood slat reads like a timber venetian and sits in better proportion on large windows and doors. We bring both to the site visit so you can compare them in your own light.
Do aluminium venetian blinds rust or warp?
No. Aluminium doesn't rust and the powder-coat finish holds up in coastal air, while Styrowood is a polystyrene composite that can't absorb water, so it won't warp, swell or peel the way timber venetians can in a steamy room. Both slats stay flat and true over a shower or a stove.
How do I clean venetian blinds?
Tilt the slats closed and wipe them with a damp cloth, then reverse the tilt and do the other side. A duster handles weekly upkeep and mild soapy water shifts kitchen grease. Because the slats are sealed metal or composite, you can clean them properly without worrying about watermarks, and there is nothing to send away for washing.
Can the slats dent or bend?
They can if they're forced, so it's worth being honest about this. An aluminium slat that gets creased stays creased; there is no steaming or ironing it back the way you might rescue a fabric blind. The habit that prevents it is simple: tilt the slats open before you lift the blind, and keep window handles and pets clear of the stack.
How much do aluminium venetian blinds cost in Cape Town?
Venetians are priced per window, so the total depends on how many windows you're covering and how big they are; the slat width you choose matters far less. Doing several rooms in one order brings the cost per blind down. The measure is free anywhere in greater Cape Town, and the fixed written quote follows within 48 hours.
How long before my blinds are installed?
Venetians are one of the quicker products we fit: once you approve the quote, the blinds are made to your window sizes and usually all hung in a single visit. Lead times shift with the season, so we confirm the current one in writing when we quote. The date you get is one you can plan around.
