Venetian blinds

Aluminium venetian blinds that work for a living

Slim 25mm powder-coated aluminium slats hold whatever tilt you set them to, in the kitchens, bathrooms and offices where fabric gives up. For bigger windows there is a 50mm Styrowood wide slat with a softer, timber look. Made to measure and fitted by our own teams in the Western Cape and Gauteng.

Slat widths

25mm or 50mm

Both widths are cut to your windows and both shrug off moisture. What separates them is proportion and character.

White 25mm aluminium venetian blinds on a bright stair landing window

25mm aluminium slats

The classic narrow venetian. Precisely tilting powder-coated slats take no lasting mark from steam or splashes, which is why this blind hangs over sinks, baths and office desks more than anywhere else.

Wide 50mm white Styrowood venetian slats over a bathroom bath

50mm Styrowood wide slat

A broader blade in Styrowood, a faux-wood polystyrene that moisture cannot get into. You get the warmth of a timber venetian without the warping, and the wider line balances well on large windows.

Overview

Separate dials for light and privacy

A venetian does something a roller cannot: it splits light control from privacy. Angle the slats upward and daylight washes across the ceiling while passers-by see nothing at all. Angle them down to take glare off a screen, or pull the whole blind up and the glass is clear. And because the slats are powder-coated aluminium, steam over the bath and grease near the stove leave no lasting mark.

Every blind is cut to your window sizes after a free measure by the Urbanshades team in your region. The fixed written quote reaches you within 48 hours, our own installers hang the blinds inside the reveal or on the face, whichever the window calls for, and the completed job is guaranteed in writing under your address.

Why venetians

Built for the hardest rooms

Metal and Styrowood keep doing things fabric never could, year after year.

Neither aluminium nor Styrowood takes in water, so condensation and cooking film wipe away clean. Nothing warps, nothing stains, and mould finds no foothold above the bath.

Steam-proof

Set the slats anywhere between wide open and sealed shut and they stay put. Bounce daylight off the ceiling or cut the afternoon glare, and keep your view without giving the neighbours one.

Precise tilt

The baked-on powder coat keeps its colour through years of direct sun. With no fabric to fade or fray, a pass with a damp cloth is the whole maintenance plan.

Tough finish

Specifications

The specifics

Slats
25mm powder-coated aluminium as the standard, or 50mm Styrowood, a moisture-proof faux-wood polystyrene, as the wide-slat option.
Control
A wand tilts the slats, a cord raises and lowers the blind, and any angle in between holds where you leave it.
Wet rooms
Both slat materials are non-absorbent, so bathrooms, kitchens and laundries are exactly where these blinds belong.
Colours
Whites, neutrals and metallic finishes. Samples come along to the measure so the choice is made against your own walls and light.
Measure & fit
Cut to size per window and hung by our own installers, inside the reveal or face-fixed to the frame or wall.
Guarantee
Slats, mechanisms and installation are all backed by a guarantee you receive in writing, filed against your address.
Quoting
Ask either regional team, Cape Town for the Western Cape or our Gauteng crew for Johannesburg and Pretoria, for a free measure; the fixed written quote arrives inside 48 hours.
FAQ

Venetian blind questions

The answers most people want before booking a measure.

Do venetian blinds handle bathrooms and kitchens?

They handle them better than any fabric blind, which is why wet rooms are where we recommend venetians first. Steam and splatter sit on the powder-coated surface until a cloth takes them off, and there is nothing absorbent to stain or go mouldy. Over a bath, the 50mm Styrowood slat adds a timber look that copes with the same conditions.

Where does Urbanshades fit aluminium venetian blinds?

Across two territories: our Western Cape team works out of Cape Town, and our Gauteng team covers Johannesburg and Pretoria. In both regions the same people measure, make up and hang your blinds from start to finish. The Western Cape and Gauteng venetian blind pages on this site go into each area in detail.

What is the difference between 25mm and 50mm slats?

Width and character, mainly. The 25mm aluminium slat is the slim classic: it suits most window sizes, stacks compactly when raised and is the usual pick for bathrooms and offices. The 50mm Styrowood slat is broader, reads more like timber and sits in better proportion on large windows and doors. Both come along to the site visit so you can compare them in place.

Will the slats rust, fade or warp?

No on all three counts. Aluminium cannot rust, the powder coat keeps its colour through long exposure to sun, and Styrowood is a polystyrene composite with no way to absorb water, so warping and swelling are off the table. What can happen is a crease from force, so lift the blind with the slats tilted open and it will stay straight for years.

What do aluminium venetian blinds cost?

Pricing runs per window, so the size and number of your windows set the total far more than the slat width does. Ordering several rooms at once improves the per-blind figure, since one visit and one installation cover the lot. Book the free measure and the fixed written quote is with you within 48 hours.

How do I keep venetian blinds clean?

Close the slats flat and wipe them with a damp cloth, then tilt them the other way and repeat on the reverse side. A weekly dusting keeps them smart, and mild soapy water deals with kitchen film. The slats are sealed metal or composite, so proper cleaning happens in place with nothing sent away for washing.
